James McPeake, Francis Joseph McPeake.

James McPeake (121) was a labourer originally from Ballymacpeake, Clady, County Derry. He also sang and played the flute. He is reported to have married an Elizabeth McPeake (239, Nee McPeake?) from Belfast, and they were the parents of Edward? McPeake (75), Francis Joseph McPeake (122) and Harry? McPeake (123). It is known that Francis was born in 1885 so James is lilely to have been born before 1865 leaving him at least 46 years old in the 1911 census if he was still alive and living in Ireland at that time. A copy of all 11 returns from the 1911 census results are summarised on the link below, however only 4 are above 39 years of age.

NA McPeake James 70 Male 29 Ballymacpeake Lower, Clady, Londonderry - Census Summary

It would seem logical that the Ballymacpeake James should have been the correct connection. However, an examination of the census return shows his wife as Mary aged 62. This would place Mary as being born around 44 years old when Francis Joseph (b.1885) was born which is possible. The other two children on this census return were aged 27 (Margaret b. circa 1884) and 22 years (John b. circa 1889), both listed as daughter and son respectively. The census shows that James and Mary had three children all of which are alive in 1911. It is possible that James and Mary were the parents of Francis Joseph McPeake (121) as he would have been born in 1885, fitting in with the dates of the other 2 children, and that he had left home by the time the census was recorded at age 26. However family reports state that Francis, Harry and Edward were brothers. Therefore the Ballymacpeake James McPeake does not seem to be correct. Further research is required to confirm the findings. The Author suspects that Francie, Harry and Edward are all the third generation, grandchildren of James and not 2nd generation as reported. It is therefore likely that James McPeake and Elizabeth McPeake had passed away before the 1911 census. There are no Elizabeth McPeake's listed in the 1911 census fitting this criteria.
