Irish Post Offices & Postmarks

Armoy, Ballymoney
Oirthear Mai, County Antrim.

Post Office opened 06 May 1833. It had an undated name stamp and a penny post mark. From 1887 the numeral 11 was used in the diamond obliterator. A double ring datestamp and a rubber mark are all known in English.

This example from J G shows an Armoy 11 diamond in the format 3-3-3. It is unusually accompanied with a ARMOY RSO / 13 MR 1905 / Co. ANTRIM. The late use of single numeral marks in conjunction with a separate single ring was common in Scotland and England but no mention is recorded of this practice in Ireland, until now!
