Francis Joseph McPeake.(122)

Francis Joseph McPeake was the son of James McPeake (121) a labourer originally from Ballymacpeake, Clady, County Derry. Francis, born 4 May 1885 at 2 Springview Street, Belfast, worked as a tram conductor and played the pipes. At thirteen years of age he left school and started working in a lionen mill, at fifteen he was a tram conductor and eventually became a photographer. He first learned to play the flure before learning to play the pipes. Franci won the feis piping competition in Belfast in 1909 and represented Ireland together with a Welsh harper, John Page at the pan-Celtic Congress in Brussels in 1911. There are only 2 Francis McPeakes recorded in the 1911 Census of Ireland

It would seem logical that the Francis Joseph, born in 1885, and aged 25 years in the 1911 census is Francis Joseph McPeake. The census shows the birth of two daughters Mary Jane McPeake, aged 1 and Catherine McPeake aged 0. Both have been confirmed by family members as relatives. We are currently confirming that Francie, born 1917 and James are also children of Francis Joseph McPeake and his wife Mary Loney. Thge couple are recorded as beimg married for 5 years, giving a mariage date of around 1906. Within the 1911 census Francis Joseph is listed as at Fruit and Vegetable Dealer.
